Hawaiian Thanksgiving 2006
It was Aloha to the Big Island for the week of Thanksgiving. We did something very non-traditional, at least for us, and flew off to be in tropical Hawaii. We stayed in Puako, north of Kona. It was a big family vacation with the Hamaoui's, Chasen's and Dawson's all together. Leila did a lot of growing this vacation. She is now rolling all over the place, eating solids, and getting very, very close to sitting up. We think she really enjoyed her first taste of Hawaii...

Leila adapted very well to the island lifestyle. All she did was eat a lot, play a little, and sleep a ton. She took at least 5 naps a day! Maybe it was something in the air.....
Ethan and Amir (yes, Amir, you look very well endowed! Just kidding!!) on the beach at Wailea. This photo was taken moments before Ethan got stung three times by a wasp. Little did he know that he was sitting next to a wasps nest. As you can imagine, the scene was quite dramatic. Poor kid!

Leila got to have her first taste of solid food on Thanksgiving Day! She happily gobbled her rice cereal right up. Yum! As you can see, Leila was very pleased with herself.
Amir (with CJ) cooking the turkey a la ficelle (on a string), an ancient roasting method he chose since he couldn't bring his spit to Hawaii. This was quite a challenge and Amir even went as far as to collect Hawaiian mesquite wood off the beach.

Amir on the lava fields. We had to walk on sharp lava rocks to those trees in the distance so we could get to this beach Amir was dying to see.
and here is the beach that took forever to get to by walking on kill-your-feet lava rocks. Ouch! The ancient Hawaiians dubbed this specific type of lava, "a'a", which probably got its name from what you say when walking over it.
The beach, Makalawena, was pretty though.

Leaving Hawaii! Here we are outside the Outrigger Keauhole, where we stayed our last night. Leila is wearing her 1st "lei".
